Ukrainian armed forces' chief of staff: Situation in Donbas relatively stable

The situation in the military operation area in eastern Ukraine is relatively stable, and the Ukrainian government forces' losses have decreased, says Col. Gen. Viktor Muzhenko, the chief of staff of the Ukrainian armed forces.

"The situation in the ATO [anti-terrorist operation] area can be called more or less stable today. The Ukrainian forces are complying with the ceasefire and other provisions of the Minsk agreements. Unfortunately, this can't be said about our enemies. Therefore, we have to respond," Muzhenko said in an interview published on the Defense Ministry website on Saturday.

The number of losses has decreased of late, although they still occur from time to time; the number and intensity of the opposing side's attacks have also lessened, he said.

Muzhenko said he expected the proper implementation of the Minsk agreements by the parties, including a full ceasefire and the withdrawal of all types of weapons from the line of contact.
