Tigipko in third position in presidential race, according to poll
Presidential candidate Sergiy Tigipko has risen to third place in the presidential election polls among the residents of Ukrainian cities, according to a poll conducted by FOM-Ukraine Company via a telephone interview and presented at Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.
According to the survey, if the presidential elections were held on the next Sunday, a total of 7.4% would vote for Tigipko, while only a total of 4.5% would support presidential candidate and leader of the Front for Change public initiative Arseniy Yatseniuk.
A total of 23% of the respondents said they consider Tigipko "a promising young politician whom they would like to see at the presidential elections." Another 20.1% of the respondents consider presidential candidate Arseniy Yatseniuk such a politician, while 31.1% think there are no worthy young politicians in Ukraine.
Director of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko, in turn, while commenting on the findings of the poll said that "this new tendency, the change of positions and the third place taken by Tigipko" could be explained by the fact that some voters have started to consider Tigipko not only an alternative to leader of the Regions Party Viktor Yanukovych, but as an alternative to Yatseniuk.
According to Fesenko, "the majority of his [Tigipko's] voters are residents of eastern and southern regions of Ukraine, that's why from the very beginning he was considered as "a moderate alternative to Yanukovych."
