Militants uses mortars in Donbas – Ukrainian army

The headquarters of the Ukrainian army's operation in the south-east of the country accused militants of firing mortars against Ukrainian soldiers 26 times in the past 24 hours, including usage of 120-mm caliber weapons on eight occasions.

"The situation was most tense in the Donetsk region, where the adversary was firing mortars, tanks, air defense systems, automatic grenade launchers and small arms at our positions near the localities of Pisky, Avdiyivka, Opytne and the Butivka mine," the operation press center said on its Facebook page on Tuesday morning.

Late on April 13, militants used 122-millimeter artillery weapons to attack the Ukrainian Armed Forces' positions near Avdiyivka and Pisky.

"Furthermore, incendiary munitions were used when grenade launchers were fired near Avdiyivka from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.," the press center said.

The situation near the city of Mariupol was quiet on Monday evening.

In the Luhansk region, militants fired twice at the Ukrainian army's checkpoint near Stary Aidar, and used 120-millimeter mortars near Sukhodil, the press center said.

The militants' drones were seen flying eight times over the Luhansk region and Mariupol.

"One of them was shot down by air defense means of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the locality of Teple near Stanytsia Luhanska," the press center said.
