Poroshenko, Merkel hope for 'Normandy Four' foreign ministers meeting in near future

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The parties discussed the situation in Donbas and spoke for holding a 'Normandy Four' meeting as soon as possible, the President's press service reported.

The parties discussed the situation in Donbas and stated that militants supported by Russia should comply with the ceasefire regime and fulfill all items of the Minsk agreements, including the liberation of hostages.

"Petro Poroshenko and Angela Merkel have agreed to hold the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Normandy group in the nearest time to negotiate topical issues on the further progress in the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements and the organization of peacekeeping mission in Donbas," reads the statement by the press service.

President also thanked Merkel for the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU in German Bundestag.

"The parties are hopeful that tomorrow's meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group will facilitate further steps in the implementation of the Minsk agreements," reads the statement.
