Support of Ukraine unites U.S. Congress – House Majority Leader McCarthy

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with a U.S. House of Representatives and discussed support for Ukraine in fighting the hybrid war, the president's press service reported on Monday.

Kevin McCarthy, House Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, said that the struggle for Ukrainian independence was supported by both the Republicans and Democrats. He also said that support for Ukraine was becoming more and more important to American society, the press service reported.

In turn, Chairman of the House Committee on Armed Services William Thornberry said that the delegation believed that countering Russian aggression and restoring peace in Ukraine was one of the most important issues for Americans.

"We all support you in your struggle for independence and freedom. Russian aggression against Ukraine affects each of us," he said.

The American delegates also said that "sanctions are the price which Russia must pay for its aggression against Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea".

While discussing the situation in the anti-terrorist operation zone, Poroshenko said that Ukraine was preparing to defend its freedom, democracy and independence.

"Ukraine is defending not only its independence; Ukrainian warriors are defending the future of the whole of Europe," Poroshenko added.
