Ex-Head of Kyiv police and his deputy put on wanted list for organizing assault on Maidan on February 19, 2014

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has said that it suspected former acting head of Kyiv police and his deputy of organizing as assault on Maidan Nezalezhnosti on February 19, 2014. They were put on the wanted list.

"Based on the results of the investigation, former acting Head of the Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv and his deputy, Head for Public Safety at the Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv, have been notified of suspicion of organizing the assault on Maidan Nezalezhnosti on the night from February 18 to February 19, 2014. [They are also suspected]of the order [to execute] such an operation that resulted in unlawful act of force and [usage of] special means by law enforcers that led to killing 13 citizens and infliction of bodily harm of various severity to 130 persons," the press service reported.

The suspects' actions fall under Part 4, Article 41 and Part 3, Article 365 (abusing power by law enforcers) as well as Part 3, Article 27 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspects have been put on the wanted list.

The Prosecutor General's Office's statement didn't mention the suspects'' names.

In February 2014, Valeriy Mazan was acting head of Kyiv police, and Petro Fedchuk was his deputy.
