Rada deputy speaker says he counts on U.S. arms supplies to Ukraine

Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) First Deputy Speaker Andriy Parubiy told members of the U.S. Congress at a meeting in Kyiv he hoped that the U.S. would eventually decide to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine.

Speaking at the meeting with Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Armed Forces William Thornberry and other American politicians on Sunday, Parubiy "thanked representatives of the U.S. Committee on Armed Forces for providing Ukraine with non-lethal weapons and expressed hope that in the near future we [Ukraine] would also receive lethal weapons," the Ukrainian parliamentarian's press service said on Monday.

Thornberry, for his part, asked Ukrainians to remember that they are not alone and promised to "do everything possible in this issue."

After leaving Ukraine, the U.S. Congress delegation is expected to visit the Baltic countries and Poland, the press service said.
