Denys Hordeyev, a suspect in the murder of an officer of the Security Service of Ukraine, Viktor Mandzyk, has been detained when trying to cross the Ukrainian border on Friday.

"This morning, during an attempt to illegally cross the state border, an SBU unit detained the killer of SBU officer Viktor Mandzyk," Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko wrote on his page on Facebook.

The head of state did not disclose the name of the detainee.

In turn, an adviser to the SBU chief, Markiyan Lubkivsky, said that the head of the SBU Valentyn Nalyvaichenko reported to the president about the detention of Denys Hordeyev, a suspect in the murder of the SBU captain in Volnovakha, Donetsk region.

As reported, Mandzyk was killed in Volnovakha on March 21. The SBU head said that he was murdered by members of a criminal gang which smuggled goods to the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk region.

The wanted list posted on the Interior Ministry's main department in Donetsk region includes names of two suspects in the case – Denys Hordeyev, born in 1979, and Artem Martynenko, born in 1983, both from Dnipropetrovsk.

MP Andriy Denysenko, who has recently announced his plans to leave the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, confirmed that a Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officer in Volnovakha was murdered by his assistant Denys Hordeyev.

As of March 25, 30 were detained as part of the investigation into this case, including Hordeyev's associate and a person close to him, Lubkivsky said.
