PGO submits abduction, torture case against Kharkiv Mayor Kernes, his bodyguards to court

Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has submitted an indictment against Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes and two of his bodyguards to court.

"The PGO has sent to the court an indictment against Kharkiv Mayor Kernes and his bodyguards Blynnyk and Smitsky on suspicion of committing crimes under part 2 Article 146, part 2 Article 127, part 1 Article 129 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," the PGO press service reported on Thursday.

The PGO said that on March 2, 2015 it notified Kernes of being suspected of committing crimes under Parts 2 and 3 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 146 (illegal restriction of freedom, or abduction), Parts 2 and 3 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 127 (torture), Parts 2 and 3 of Article 27, Part 1 of Article 129 (threat of murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and announced the completion of the pre-trial investigation.
