Lithuania ratifies agreement establishing Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian military brigade

The Lithuanian parliament has voted unanimously to ratify the agreement establishing a joint Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian military brigade.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Juozas Olekas said that the main purpose of the brigade is to provide military exercises, however the brigade will also participate in international operations under the mandate of the UN Security Council.

He said that the LITPOLUKRBRIG military brigade will consist of Lithuanian military personnel from the Grand Duchess Birute Uhlan Battalion.

The protocol on the creation of the brigade was signed in Warsaw in September 2014.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has already ratified the agreement.

The brigade's command center will be located in the Polish city of Lublin and will be subject to Polish legislation and international law.
