Kyiv expects Russia to take specific steps to execute PACE resolution – Foreign Ministry

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has welcomed the resolution adopted by the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) and expects Russia to take specific steps to execute provisions of the document.

"Ukraine welcomes the adoption of a resolution by PACE which prolongs the sanctions against the Russian Federation. The Russian delegation has been stripped of the right to vote in PACE, as well as of the right to be represented in PACE ruling agencies, or the right to represent PACE in other agencies of the Council of Europe and other organizations, participate in PACE election monitoring missions. Besides, members of Russian delegation to PACE can't be appointed rapporteurs," reads the statement by the Foreign Ministry posted on Thursday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the resolution shows the solidarity of European states in their assessment of the events in Ukraine, and is a consolidated response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

The Foreign Ministry recalled that the resolution contains a list of demands to Russia, including freeing Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko within 24 hours, revoking illegal annexation of Crimea, stopping oppressing the Crimean Tatars and ethnic Ukrainians, etc.

"Together with the whole global community, Ukraine will expect Russia [to take] specific steps aimed at immediate and unconditional execution of the PACE resolution, which will allow the Russian delegation to PACE to retain its right to vote," the Foreign Ministry said.

As earlier reported, PACE approved amendment No. 13 to a PACE draft resolution, which "calls upon the Russian authorities to release Ukrainian PACE member Savchenko within 24 hours".

According to the resolution, the Russian delegation is stripped off its rights to be a part of PACE decision-making agencies and to vote until April 2015.
