Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes for the quick introduction of procedures to designate organizations in Ukraine as terrorist ones.

"We're now finalizing [issues] to cover that legislative gap, and I think we'll be able to reach a normal understanding of the process soon," Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration Olena Zerkal said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

The ministry is now closely cooperating with Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada on this issue, she said.

"A [respective] draft bill was tabled by the government in parliament and passed first reading. We're now working with the Verkhovna Rada to improve the mechanism to designate organizations as terrorist ones," she said.

As was reported, Ukrainian lawmakers on January 26, 2015, voted for a government-prepared bill at first reading to authorize a court and other agencies to designate organizations as terrorist ones.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk earlier instructed the Justice Ministry, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine to take measures to designate the self-proclaimed republics in Donetsk and Luhansk regions as terrorist organizations.

He also called on the international community to take a similar step.
