Poroshenko OKs reinstatement of first deputy chief of General Staff of Ukraine Vorobyov

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has approved the reinstatement of Colonel-General and former Commander of the Land Forces of Ukraine, Hennadiy Vorobyov, at the post of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine, the president's press service reported.

Respective approval has been signed by the President at the meeting with Chief of the General Staff, Colonel-General Viktor Muzhenko, Hennadiy Vorobyov and NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.

The president reminded that Verkhovna Rada had adopted the amendments to the law "On lustration of the government" the day before.

"Pursuant to my initiative, yesterday the parliament made amendments to the law on lustration that will return experienced, patriotic and professional servicemen to the Armed Forces and to the front. We must have a strong army to fight for peace," the president said adding that these amendments are to be submitted for his signature today.

With his signature, the president expresses full support to the recommendation of Muzhenko.

"Please start fulfilling your duties immediately. We hope that your knowledge, skills and experience will bring benefits for Ukraine," the head of state addressed to Vorobyov.

The participants of the meeting have discussed the situation at the front and a series of measures aimed at strengthening the defense, especially in the area of Debaltseve.

According to the current information, the situation is stable and intense. Ukrainian servicemen firmly hold the line and ensure the defense of the defined boundaries.
