Poroshenko envoy asks PACE to recognize DPR, LPR as terrorist organizations, Russia as country supporting terrorism

Iryna Heraschenko, the Ukrainian presidential envoy for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbas and a parliamentarian representing the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, has urged the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to recognize the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics (DPR and LPR) as terrorist organizations and the Russian Federation as a country supporting them.

Heraschenko said during debates on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine at an ongoing PACE session on Tuesday that the events in Donbas are not an internal Ukrainian conflict but a war inspired from the outside and accused Russia of having military presence in the region.

"Following each delivery of so-called humanitarian cargo from Russia, the intensity of the shelling increases. The number of those killed and injured and the number of the displaced persons grows," she said.

Heraschenko fully laid the blame for the current situation in eastern Ukraine on Russia and called on PACE to air its unambiguous judgments as to who bears responsibility for this.

It had been reported earlier that the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, had endorsed a statement recognizing Russia as an aggressor country and calling on parliaments of other countries and international organizations also to designate Russia as an aggressor and increase pressure on it and recognize the DPR and LPR as terrorist organizations.
