Lithuania gives "elements of equipment" to Ukraine - Defense Minister Olekas

Lithuania has provided the Ukrainian army with "elements of equipment" that Kyiv requested earlier, Lithuania's Defense Minister Juozas Olekas told the BNS news agency on Monday.

"These military assets, as [Ukrainian President] Petro Poroshenko has described them handsomely, are elements of equipment, in other words, it is what the Armed Forces of Ukraine need," the minister said, declining to provide further details.

"We support Ukraine and are ready to continue to extend assistance to it," Olekas said.

President Poroshenko told local media on January 4 that Lithuania had delivered on its promise concerning assistance for Ukraine.

"We have already received what our partners from Lithuania promised in terms of equipment. We have received the first batch of warm clothes, boots and equipment from Canada. We are also awaiting two airplanes. We have received a consignment from Poland and our other partners as well," he said.

In November 2014, Lithuania and Ukraine agreed to cooperate in military-technological issues, including deliveries of "elements of equipment", Poroshenko said then.
