Movements across frontline in Donbas will be restricted - Turchynov

Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has announced that human and cargo flows across the separation line of the conflicting sides in Donbas will be restricted.

"Seven transport corridors have been formed across the separation line. All other roads have been blocked," he said after a January 3 meeting with defense officials in Donetsk region, Turchynov's press secretary Hanna Vakhotska told Interfax-Ukraine on Saturday.

Turchynov said that the movements in the area where the anti-terrorist operation is conducted are being restricted with the purpose of conducting comprehensive measures.

He said that all vehicles and individuals that will try to escape the corridors will be thoroughly examined.

"Besides, in case of shelling in the 30-kilometer zone near the transport corridors they will be closed for an indefinite period of time," the official said.

After inspecting a checkpoint on the Kurakhove-Maryinka-Donetsk line he said that it functions "quite efficiently, without queues."

"Understandably some local residents voice discontent with certain restrictions in movements but the security of millions of our citizens is much more important," Turchynov said.

During his visit to the frontline Turchynov also held a meeting in the town of Pisky near Donetsk airport. He said that the meeting discussed enhancing security measures in the area of the anti-terrorist operation.
