Poroshenko, Canada premier discuss possibility of increasing economic aid for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper during a telephone conversation have discussed the situation in Donbas and the possibility of economic cooperation, the press service of the head of state has said.

"The president thanked Canada for the decision to provide Ukraine with military and technical assistance in the amount of $1 million, which includes clothes, footwear, winter clothing, demining equipment, communications equipment, night vision equipment and other optical devices, medical equipment, including a medical field hospital and medicines," reads a statement.

The first batch of this aid has already arrived and the next one is expected to come soon.

The president of Ukraine also thanked Canada for "strong support for Ukraine on international markets."

Stephen Harper, in turn, said that Poroshenko's visit to Canada on September 17 was successful and had a positive public reaction in the Canadian society.

In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of increasing economic assistance to Ukraine through the mechanisms of international financial institutions.
