Kyiv awaiting German foreign minister's visit

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit Kyiv and meet with Ukrainian leaders on Friday.

"Steinmeier will arrive [on Friday]. There will be no separate meeting held at the Foreign Ministry… There will be no press point at the ministry either," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis told Interfax-Ukraine.

A source in the Ukrainian government press service told Interfax that Steinmeier was scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk in the first half of Friday. The media will not be allowed to the talks.

Interfax-Ukraine has also learned about events involving the German foreign minister at the Ukrainian presidential administration.

Perebyinis said earlier that the German and Hungarian foreign ministers would visit Ukraine on December 19.

Earlier this week Steinmeier called for the soonest possible meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk. He said he hoped the meeting would be held before Christmas and underlined that efforts towards the implementation of the Minsk agreements should be continued as that was the only binding document for the parties.

The German foreign minister previously paid a visit to Kyiv on November 18.
