Amstor retailer sets smallest markups, despite hryvnia devaluation, says operator

The change in the hryvnia exchange rate to foreign currency influences the end cost of goods in Ukraine, as the retail price of goods directly depends on prices set by suppliers, and the pricing policy of the Amstor retail food chain is directly dependent on this figure, stated Amstor Trade House, the operator of the Amstor chain of the eponymous group (all based in Donetsk), part of Smart-holding (Kyiv).

"We could say that the Amstor retail chain sets the smallest markups in Amstor supermarkets," the company said, commenting on the devaluation of the hryvnia, with the resulting impact on food prices.

Amstor Trade House said that the retention of the minimum markup is especially important for residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Amstor stated, when asked about the possible influence of the devaluation of the Russian ruble on retail prices, that the Russian ruble exchange rate to foreign currency does not impact the company’s Ukrainian pricing policy.
