Russia sends $5 mln to UN World Food Programme for assistance to Ukraine

The Russian government has issued an instruction in response to the Foreign Ministry's proposal on making a special contribution to the budget of the UN World Food Programme to finance expenditures related to the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the government website reported on Thursday.

"It has been decided to allocate up to $5 million from the federal budget in 2014 as the Russian Federation's one-time voluntary special contribution to the budget of the UN World Food Program to finance expenditures related to the provision of humanitarian aid to the population of Ukraine via the UN World Food Programme channels," it said.

The government considered and approved the document on December 4, 2014.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has been instructed to inform the UN World Food Programme and the Ukrainian government of the decision and agree upon the money transfer procedure with the Russian Finance Ministry.

The Finance Ministry has been tasked with financing the spending from budget appropriations disbursed to it in the 2014 federal budget.
