Ukraine intends to withdraw the system of public procurement from the scope of responsibility of the Health Ministry and purchase medicines through the UN system and a number of international organizations, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.

"With regard to medicine procurement using state funds – this is part of the coalition agreement and the government's position: we will withdraw a number of functions for the purchase of medicines and medical goods from the Health Ministry and pass them to the UN system," he said at a cabinet meeting.

"Some vaccines and special medicines, including those for the treatment of HIV/AIDS, and other special drugs will be procured through the systems of the UN, the UNICEF, the WHO and other international organizations," the official said.

As reported, the draft coalition agreement proposed the reorganization of the Health Ministry structure in accordance with European standards and depriving the authority of non-relevant functions (procurement, the maintenance of medical and educational institutions, etc.).
