EU Commissioner Hahn to visit Ukraine every three months

The EU promises to constantly monitor the situation in Ukraine and the implementation of reforms, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn has said.

"I would like to be here every three months in order to follow the process of concrete implementation of the reform agenda," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday as part of his visit to Ukraine.

He said that the new government would have to begin implementing specific reforms that Ukrainians and the international community are waiting for. In this case, all attempts to destabilize the situation in Ukraine will be futile, he said.

"Today I am here to transmit two main messages: one of the European Union support [for Ukraine] at a difficult time and one of the need to deliver on the general public's and international community's expectations," he said.

"My visit is a sign of the EU, and here I mean all of our institutions, determination to stand by Ukraine and to support its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and the reforms," Hahn said.

"The EU is making an unprecedented level of assistance available to Ukraine, but Ukraine must be ready to take ownership for the reform program," he added.
