Poroshenko says his peace plan and Minsk agreements will bring peace to Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he is confident that his peace plan, as well as the Minsk agreements, will help establish peace in Donbas.

"My peace plan, the Minsk protocol and the Minsk memorandum will eventually lead to a peaceful Donbas. As an uncontested basis for a political settlement, this document has been recognized by the world, including by the Russian Federation that put its signature under the Minsk memorandum," he said in the Verkhovna Rada in his extraordinary address on the domestic and foreign situation in Ukraine.

He also said: "Looking ahead, we clearly see that the establishment of peace in Donbas will not mean getting rid of a military threat from the east. Unfortunately, this threat is visible in a very long-term historical perspective and will always require a lot of effort and huge resources."

"This is a reality, which Ukraine has realized too late, which we will unlikely be able to change, but which we have to learn how to counteract," Poroshenko said.
