Russian singer Iosif Kobzon has been stripped off the title of honorary citizen of Poltava.

The corresponding decree was adopted by the majority of the deputies at the 45th session of Poltava City Council.

"We are against Kobzon, as both the U.S. and Israeli governments suspected him of being involved in organized crime on numerous occasions. For that reason he was denied entry to these countries. At the beginning of Euromaidan events, he started expressing anti-Ukrainian views and urged [former president Viktor] Yanukovych to shoot at the protestors in Kyiv, publicly insulted Ukraine's anthem by calling it 'nazilike,'" Chair of Poltava Public Club Viktoria Rodicheva said.

Poltava Public Club gathered over 460 signatures to strip Kobzon off the title.

The decision to make Kobzon an honorary citizen of Poltava was made in 2002.

In September 2014, he was stripped off the title of an honorary citizen of Dnipropetrovsk. The Security Service of Ukraine included Kobzon on the list of people banned from entering Ukraine.
