Biden promises to send Peace Corps volunteers to Ukraine

Volunteers from the Peace Corps will arrive in Ukraine over the next few months, said U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden.

Speaking at a press conference held jointly with Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv on Friday, he said that America continues to support Ukraine not only with respect to business and government. We also have a personal relationship, which lies in friendship between our nations, he said. Over the next few months the Peace Corps and its volunteers will come to Ukraine again, he said.

Democratic development is hard to do and requires patience, he said, adding that as long as the Ukrainian president and his colleagues believe in their obligation to create a prospering society, they will not be alone. The U.S. will always be with you, will be your partner and friend, Biden said.

The Peace Corps is an independent federal U.S. agency. It is a humanitarian organization which sends volunteers to poverty-stricken countries to provide aid.
