Poroshenko vows to sign decree conferring Hero of Ukraine title on Heavenly Hundred

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has promised to sign a decree conferring the Hero of Ukraine title on the deceased participants in the Revolution of Dignity.

"I have made a decision: today I will sign a decree conferring the Hero of Ukraine title on the Heavenly Hundred Heroes," he told the relatives of the deceased protesters near a memorial cross on Instytutska Street in downtown Kyiv early on Friday.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that when the president was putting a candle jar at the Memorial Cross to the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, the relatives of the Maidan victims who gathered near the memorial had indignantly demanded that the deceased protesters be awarded the Hero of Ukraine title.

After visiting the memorial sign the head of state left, but thirty minutes later he returned to talk to those present.

"Nothing should spoil the Day of Remembrance for the Heavenly Hundred Heroes. Now we really need to be united. We have an enemy in our yard," Poroshenko said, addressing the people.

The president promised to award the Hero of Ukraine title to the Heavenly Hundred. This decision was met with a welcome "Glory to Ukraine!"

As reported, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema in his article for the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Weekly Mirror) newspaper wrote that 74 peaceful citizens and 12 policemen had been killed in Kyiv downtown on February 18-20, 2014, while 180 citizens and over 180 law enforcers had suffered gunshot wounds.
