Turchynov, Solberg discuss Ukrainian-Norwegian cooperation in energy sector and reverse gas supplies from Europe

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov met with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in Kyiv on Tuesday, the press service of the Ukrainian parliament has reported.

During the meeting, which took place as a continuation of the previous talks held in Oslo, Turchynov and Solberg discussed cooperation between Ukraine and Norway in the energy and economic spheres.

In the context of cooperation in the energy sector, Turchynov and Solberg discussed reverse gas supplies from Europe to Ukraine.

"Reverse gas supplies from Europe to Ukraine will enable us to stop large-scale energy diktat and blackmail by Russia on the energy market," Turchynov said.

He also said it was important that democratic pro-European political parties had received a constitutional majority in the Verkhovna Rada after early parliamentary elections on October 26.

"For our country there is no alternative to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will not be able to stop us on this road," he said.

Turchynov said that a top priority in the work of the new majority in parliament was "the implementation of the Association Agreement, which we signed with the EU."

In addition, he added that despite all problems and "the war in the east of Ukraine, our government is working to restore the country's economy destroyed by the previous regime."

Solberg, in turn, expressed support for the Ukrainian people and authorities on behalf of the Norwegian authorities "and all the people of our country."

"We are impressed by the processes that are currently taking place in Ukraine," she said.

She noted that the results of parliamentary elections in Ukraine were opening up all possibilities for systemic legislative changes in the judiciary and for the sustainable economic development of Ukraine.

"We know that if there is no rule of law, it is very difficult to achieve economic growth. We are ready to support you along this way," Solberg said.

She said that the Norwegian authorities were ready to assist Ukraine, including financially, in reforming judicial and law enforcement spheres.
