Poroshenko on pseudo-elections in DPR and LPR: This farce cannot be called elections

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that pseudo-elections held by the so-called DPR and LPR on November 2 cannot be called an honest expression of people's will.

"Yesterday's pseudo-elections in part of Donbas are completely opposite to the vote on October 26. Unfortunately, this part is still controlled by militants. This farce under the muzzles of tanks and machineguns has nothing to do with the expression of people's will and cannot be called elections by definition," reads a statement posted on the website of the head of state on Monday.

Poroshenko said that Kyiv would not recognize pseudo-elections held on November 2.

"Bandits, terrorists and interventionists may crown themselves as deputies, premiers, or ministers. Even as kings or emperors. No matter what they place on their heads, they will remain invaders, thieves, and militants. Ukraine will never recognize the so-called elections on November 2," he said.

"We cannot respect the choice that did not and does not exist – de facto or de jure. A country that respects itself and international law does not recognize and will never recognize the so-called elections. This farce has already been condemned by the EU, the United States, and dozens of our partner countries. And the German government spokesman has already said today that there can be no question of lifting sanctions against Russia," Poroshenko said.
