Ukraine, Germany and France have expressed a clear position that the countries will not recognize the elections scheduled by the so-called DPR and LPR for November 2, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's press service has reported.

"Ukraine, Germany and France have expressed a joint clear position that they will not recognize the elections planned by separatists since they contradict the Minsk agreements, in particular, Clause 9 of the Minsk protocol of September 5, which defines the need to hold early local elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions exclusively in line with Ukrainian legislation, and also urged Russia not to recognize these elections," reads a statement released by the press service on Friday, following a telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine, France, Russia and the German chancellor.

According to the report, during the conversation all sides welcomed gas agreements reached between Ukraine, Russia and the EU and also discussed the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"They agreed that the settlement of the conflict should be achieved while preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, especially in the context of the elections, which are scheduled in Donbas for November 2," reads the report.

The sides also reaffirmed their commitment to the consistent implementation of the Minsk agreements as a basis to achieve a peaceful settlement. In addition, the sides emphasized the importance of continuing the work of the Trilateral Contact Group, with the participation of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE.
