International election observers in Ukraine to make statement on Monday

The international observers monitoring the October 26 early parliamentary elections in Ukraine will present their preliminary post-election statement at a news conference in Kyiv on Monday, October 27, reads a statement posted on the Web site of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

According to the report, the international observation mission is a common endeavor involving the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR), the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the European Parliament (EP) and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA).

The statement will be delivered on Monday by Kent Harstedt (MP, Sweden), OSCE Special Coordinator and leader of the short-term OSCE observer mission; followed by Christopher Chope, Head of the PACE Delegation; Doris Barnett (MP, Germany), Head of the OSCE PA Delegation; Andrej Plenkovic, Head of the EP Delegation; Rasa Jukneviciene, Head of the NATO PA Delegation; and Tana de Zulueta, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR long-term election observation mission.

The international election observation mission comprises some 950 observers from 43 countries, including some 750 long-term and short-term observers deployed by the OSCE/ODIHR, 91 parliamentarians and staff from the OSCE PA, 41 from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), 26 from the European Parliament (EP) and 17 from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA).
