Parliamentary elections to be held, militants' plan to destabilize situation in Ukraine foiled – SBU chief

Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Valentyn Nalyvaichenko has said that SBU and other law enforcement agencies have foiled a plan to disrupt early parliamentary elections and destabilize the situation in Ukraine.

"Today I can state that we have foiled an anti-Ukrainian plan to disrupt the elections and destabilize the situation in the country," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

Nalyvaichenko said that all tools and means that were prepared and used by Russian special services and members of illegal armed groups "have currently been neutralized."

"And those who still exist in the country with explosives and weapons and are hiding from us will either be detained or neutralized if they do not surrender," he said.

"Inside the state the plan [to disrupt the elections and destabilize the situation in the country] has been foiled. The elections will take place, and we will not allow any provocative actions," Nalyvaichenko said.

Early parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 26.
