UN to allocate $2 mln for displaced persons in Dnipropetrovsk region

Dnipropetrovsk Regional Governor Ihor Kolomoisky and UN representatives are planning soon to sign a memorandum that foresees the allocation of over $2 million for internally displaced persons (IDPs), the regional state administration's press service has reported.

The work on the memorandum was conducted for nearly five months. UNHCR Regional Representative for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Oldrich Andrysek repeatedly visited Dnipropetrovsk region and met with the leadership of the regional state administration for negotiations on the signing of the memorandum.

"These funds will be used for the payment for utility services by displaced persons and for the repair of housing where they will spend this winter," reads the report.

According to the memorandum, the UNHCR regional office for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine intends to attract donors to implement projects on the socio-economic integration of displaced persons, as well as to provide humanitarian, technical and financial assistance, and take part in all activities aimed at receiving IDPs.

A project is also being worked out to provide financial assistance to socially vulnerable categories of the population - today these are about 1,000 families.

The total number of displaced persons from Luhansk, Donetsk regions and Crimea in Dnipropetrovsk region is currently 37,374 people (10,810 families).
