Ukrainian law enforcement agencies to meet due to upcoming parliamentary elections - Poroshenko

The leadership of Ukraine's law enforcement agencies will hold a meeting on preventing offences in the regions during early parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"I have made rather decisive steps to ensure that these elections could be transparent and that we could ensure the free expression of popular will. Yesterday I signed a law tightening penalties for the violation of the election law," he told journalists at the Orshanets border training center in Cherkasy.

"Right now we will hold respective meetings at the level of the Interior Ministry, the Security Service, and the prosecutor's office, which, in the last week [before the elections], should ensure the cessation of vote buying and fraud in the commissions," he said.

Poroshenko said that there were currently negative examples of vote buying and threats to opponents, including in Cherkasy region.

Early parliamentary elections will be held in Ukraine on October 26.
