Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced that next week he will sign a decree demobilizing conscripts willing to continue their military service under contract.

"I have compiled a decree and it will be published next week. All those willing to sign up for contract service will be demobilized," he said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels Saturday evening.

"Conscripts will be demobilized," he emphasized.

Thus those willing to serve under contract will be able to do so and receive bigger allowances, he said.

As for general demobilization, it will not happen, Poroshenko said. "Do you want me to declare demobilization at the time of hostilities? No! [Do you want me] to disband the army? To leave the country defenseless? No, that will never happen!" he said.
