Police detain 43 people for riots near parliament, 14 released - Avakov

Law enforcement officers detained 43 people following riots outside the Verkhovna Rada building on October 14, and 14 of them were released due to lack of evidence of their involvement in violations, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said.

"Forty-three people were detained as a result of these violations, disturbances and riots, which occurred near the Verkhovna Rada. Of these, 12 people were arrested, administrative protocols on violations were drafted with respect to 17, and 14 people were released due to lack of evidence," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

The minister also said that the number of those detained and arrested for the events outside the parliament building would grow.

He also added that the police did not intend to falsify the evidence and facts of involvement of detainees in the unrest.

It was reported earlier that protesters clashed with law enforcement officers near the Verkhovna Rada on October 14. Fifteen policemen were injured, two of them seriously. Avakov said 37 people had been detained in connection with the events. The Svoboda and Right Sector organizations claimed they had no relation to the incidents.
