Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he hopes that Austrian law enforcement agencies will help ensure there is a legal investigation into the crimes alleged to have been committed in Ukraine by former high-ranking officials.

"In June through September, Ukrainian investigators sent several requests for the provision of international legal assistance in criminal proceedings against former senior Ukrainian officials, including [former President Viktor] Yanukovych and others, in order to ensure a legal investigation into crimes committed in Ukraine by the previous authorities," Poroshenko said in a joint press statement with Faymann in Kyiv on Wednesday.
