Illegal armed groups continue violating the ceasefire in the eastern regions of Ukraine and shelling the positions of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces and residential areas in the east of the country, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said.

"Terrorists and Russian mercenaries continue to violate the ceasefire in Donbas. Militants again attacked the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the Donetsk airport with artillery and Grad systems, and twice tried to storm it. All of the terrorist attacks have been successfully repelled," he said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He noted that on Monday, the militants fired with mortars and small arms three times on the positions of Ukrainian forces near the village of Ridkodub, Shakhtarsk district, Donetsk region, and army positions near the village of Nikishyne, Shakhtarsk district, were shelled five times.

Lysenko also said that there was an increase in the number of attacks on residential areas. In particular, the town of Kirovske in the direction of Donetsk and Yenakiyeve was shelled with Grad rockets on September 29.

"The 240-mm Tyulpan self-propelled artillery units received from Russia are also being used by the bandits to shell residential quarters in the town of Debaltseve," he said.
