Reform process in Ukraine slows down, says EEAS

The reform process in Ukraine is slowing down, the European External Action Service (EEAS) has said.

After the presidential election the process slowed down, partially due to the announcement of the parliamentary election and the situation in the security area, Gunnar Wiegand EEAS Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia Regional Cooperation and OSCE countries said at a meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament on Tuesday.

He called on EP members during meetings at all levels with their Ukrainian counterparts to raise the question of conducting the required reforms, first of all, constitutional and court system reform, the realization of which is greatly hindered, as a part of the agenda of the association agreed earlier.

Wiegand said that the reforms and decentralization of power are to continue after the election.

He said that it is important to ensure the democratic and legal representation of representatives of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the new parliament.
