Ukrainian military have blown up the runway at Luhansk Airport, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) information and analytical center spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said.

"After the military left the airport in Luhansk, our explosives experts blew up the runway, thus making its use impossible," he said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He also added that Ukrainian military continued to hold Donetsk Airport.

Lysenko said that militants did not stop shelling populated localities.

"Using rocket artillery, gunmen constantly shell the outskirts of Luhansk – the villages of Yuvileine, Katerynivka, Vesela Hora, Slovianoserbsk district and Petrivka in Stanytsia Luhanska district. The two latter settlements were simultaneously shelled from Russian territory," he said.

He noted that militants had fired at Lenin Avenue in Alchevsk with heavy artillery. Information on those killed and injured is being specified, he said.
