President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur has said she is concerned about reports ofincreasing tension in eastern Ukraine.

"I am gravely concerned by the reports of an escalation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and its implications for the two member states of the Council of Europe, Russia and Ukraine," she said, while commenting on the situation.

She said that on Tuesday, September 2, in Paris, she would meet with Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin and the leaders of PACE political groups.

"These increasingly worrying developments, including the reports of direct involvement of Russian troops will certainly be on the agenda," Brasseur said.

She said that she would also make contact with Verkhovna Rada Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov in order to obtain clarification of unfolding events in the region.
