The European Union is ready to issue EUR2.5 million for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said during a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

"Barroso supported the initiative of the president of Ukraine regarding a humanitarian mission and the clear position of Ukraine that it should be carried out in accordance with international law. He also said that the European Union is ready to issue EUR2.5 million for humanitarian aid to Ukraine. He called for the creation of a special coordination mechanism for providing humanitarian assistance and moving immigrants," reads the report.

During the conversation Poroshenko expressed the wish to put the issue on the situation in Ukraine on the agenda of the next European Council meeting scheduled for August 30.

He also declared readiness to multilateral international debate to resolve the situation in Donbas in the Norman or Geneva format.

The head of state assured the EC President of the loyalty to the intention to implement the peaceful plan on the following principles: bilateral ceasefire under the monitoring and verification of the OSCE, the release of hostages, controls over the Ukrainian-Russian border to stop the inflow of weapons and fighters and a political dialogue without any additional conditions.
