Ukraine still hopes to resolve the situation in Donbas by diplomatic means despite the successful actions of Ukrainian military units during the anti-terrorist operation, Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Oleksandr Motsyk has stated.

In his article for the Wall Street Journal the ambassador noted that the success of Ukrainian military men would not influence the disposition of the Ukrainian side to resolve the conflict through diplomatic channels and implement the peaceful plan of the Ukrainian president to settle the conflict.

"We are confident the truth is on our side, and the violence imposed on Ukraine by Russia will soon remain in the past. However, this could happen if the international community led by the United States is united and resolute in support of Ukraine, as well as counter the aggressor," the Ukrainian ambassador said.

According to him, neither the tragedy with the Malaysian aircraft nor economic sanctions against Russia have changed the policy of the Russian leadership towards destabilizing the situation in Ukraine.

The diplomat noted terrorist organizations demand Ukraine recognize the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic.

He also believes that Russians will suffer from the imposition of sanctions against Russia.
