OSCE hopes that experts will be able to reach MH17 scene on Thursday

Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine Ertugrul Apakan expects that international experts will be able to reach the scene of the MH17 crash along a safety corridor on Thursday.

The crash scene is our common responsibility, he said at a briefing on Wednesday. In this sense OSCE cooperates with the Ukrainian authorities and also with the delegations from the Netherlands, Australia and special commission to have access to the place of the crash, he said.

Apakan said that the working group met on Wednesday. He said his deputy was at the place and contacted with the negotiators.

He fully agreed that it should be an actual ceasefire and there should be no hostilities, and there should be corridors to the crash area. This 20-kiloemter zone is very important, he said. We support the proposal and in order to reach practical results we talk to the negotiators at the scene and we hope we will be able to practically advance to reach the place of the accident already tomorrow, he said.

Apakan said the OSCE is looking for a safe route to the crash scene because the team will include some 100 people and a safe way should be found so that these people could work.
