Ukrainian journalist Aharkov arrested in Russia returns home

Yevhen Aharkov, a journalist from the Ukrainian TV channel 1+1 detained earlier in Russia's Voronezh, returned to Ukraine from Russia late on Tuesday, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Twitter.

"Aharkov safely returned home from through the Hoptivka border checkpoint in the Kharkiv region at about 2330," the ministry said.

It was reported earlier that Aharkov had been placed at a special temporary detention center for foreigners in Yelizavetovka, the Voronezh region, on July 18.

Aharkov, who traveled to Voronezh to cover an investigation against Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko, was arrested on July 18 for working without the Russian Foreign Ministry's accreditation.

The Central District Court in Voronezh later imposed a 2,000-ruble administrative fine on Aharkov and ordered his deportation outside Russia.
