One person has been killed and another injured in a shootout in the town of Novoaidar, in Luhansk region, Deputy Interior Minister Serhiy Yarovy has said.

"As the result of the incident, one person was killed and another wounded. A team of investigators are working at the site. It will establish all the circumstances of this event," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Sunday.

When asked about the identities of the killed and the wounded, the deputy minister said that he could not provide such information. A task force is working to identify the deceased and injured, he said.

Yarovy said that "a group of armed separatists" seized ballot papers and tried to escape.

"The units subordinate of the anti-terrorist center found this group. A shootout followed, the terrorists were detained, they are currently undergoing investigative actions. Two cars, in which they drove, and ballots were found at the site," the deputy minister said.

Earlier, at a press briefing Deputy Head of the Central Election Commission Zhanna Usenko-Chorna reported that a group of unidentified people seized ballots from polling stations in Novoaidar, Luhansk region.
