Party of Regions slams parliamentary majority for concealing info on antiterrorist operation from people

The Party of Regions of Ukraine has strongly denounced the parliamentary majority's decision to conceal information on the progress of the antiterrorist operation in the southwestern part of the country from the nation and to expel the Communist Party faction from the session hall on Tuesday.

"The parliamentary majority has concealed information on the progress of the so-called antiterrorist operation in the south and east of the country from the people, making the Verkhovna Rada session closed. The parliamentary opposition's demand that the people should be informed of the facts related, among other things, to the numerous deaths in Odesa and other Ukrainian cities, was blatantly ignored," the Party of Regions said in a statement published on the party's website on Tuesday.

"For the first time in history of world parliamentarianism, an opposition faction backed by millions of voters was expelled from the Verkhovna Rada session hall," it said.

"This provocation was arranged in the run-up to the Day of Victory in the Second World War, which is celebrated around the world, and, unfortunately, this provocation has worsened the people's discontent and the split in Ukrainian society. Hence, instead of taking convincing steps for unifying Ukraine, the current authorities have worsened the conflict and confrontation, with all the ensuing consequences," it said.

The Party of Regions has also protested "anti-democratic and anti-popular actions by the ruling coalition and lays all the blame for fomenting a civic conflict on the current irresponsible, helpless and aggressive authorities, which are destroying the state and making a dangerous process of Ukraine's disintegration irreversible," the statement says.

"We are once again urging all people of goodwill wishing to live in peace, work safely, and preserve and strengthen the Ukrainian state to say a firm 'no' to the political adventurists who have seized all governmental positions in the country today. We stand up for a united country, peace, labor, and the people," the party said.
