Prosecutors investigating case against Yanukovych for non-recognition of Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide and persecution of opposition leaders

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office (PGO), after an appeals from two citizens on abuse of office, has included in the unified register of pre-trial investigations respective information with regard to former President Viktor Yanukovych and other former officials, the PGO press service has reported, citing the PGO main investigation department.

Proceedings were launched under Part 2, Article 364 (abuse of power or office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

"Criminal proceedings were registered under an appeal from two citizens of Ukraine, in which they indicate that the said persons committed numerous abuses of power in 2010-2013. In particular, they include non-recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide, persecution of political opposition leaders and journalists by prosecuting, interior agencies, Security Service units and the courts, as well as indulging the corrupt practices of former heads of higher authorities and law enforcement agencies," the press service said.

A pre-trial investigation is currently continuing.
