Over 200 criminal cases on separatism have been opened and the activity of banks involved in the financing of these unlawful actions was stopped in the period from March to mid-April 2014, Acting Ukrainian Prosecutor General Oleh Makhnitsky has said.

"In March through April 214, 214 criminal proceedings were opened on separatism. The suspects are various people who were involved in separatist activities, including officials and local deputies," he said in an interview with Channel 5 on Wednesday.

He said that 92 people had been arrested and that one criminal case had already been sent to court for consideration.

Makhnitsky also noted that 41 criminal proceedings were launched from April 11 to April 16.

"The question of Verkhovna Rada deputies will also be resolved. As you know, they have parliamentary immunity, but now this issue is being resolved," he said.

Makhnitsky also added: "Today checks are being conducted, and the funding of 14 banks that served as financial platforms for separatism has been stopped. Some 300 criminal cases on this have already been submitted to court."
