The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has reduced spending on the maintenance of prosecuting agencies by UAH 137 million, including UAH 87 million on wage payments, as well as spending on service vehicles and capital expenditures, Acting Ukrainian Prosecutor General Oleh Makhnitsky has said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He said that the Prosecutor General's Office would actively participate in the implementation of the law of Ukraine on preventing financial catastrophe and creating prerequisites for economic growth in Ukraine.

Makhnitsky said that for this purpose prosecutors had studied the articles of its expenditures before the introduction of amendments to the state budget in 2014.

He said that 2,263 posts would be reduced, "and their load will be distributed among the rest of the staff." In addition, the car fleet of the Prosecutor General's Office was reduced by eight vehicles.

For budgetary savings it was also decided to cancel the provision of the Ukrainian law on the prosecutor's office regarding the payment of benefits to prosecutors and investigators upon their retirement, which will save significant amounts. As a consequence, the interest on the accrual of pensions was significantly reduced. In addition, the provision regarding a 50% discount on utility services and other benefits for prosecutorial staff was cancelled.
