Ukraine hopes Crimean referendum annulled

The Ukrainian government has expressed hopes that the referendum in Crimea will be cancelled.

"We, like the whole international community, do not recognize this referendum. We expect changes in the position of the Russian administration in the near future," Ukrainian Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko told a briefing on Wednesday.

Petrenko said the Crimean referendum destroys the world system of territorial structure, which was established after WWII, and the precedent set by it will be used for territorial claims, including to Russia. "This referendum […] will also have geopolitical consequences," he said.
